Thomas rules the waves

Collier Park - Par

This week was the first week back at Collier in some time and it was the comp everyone loves to hate …. PAR. Many took the opportunity to distract themselves from that side of things and play their outstanding Match Plays. Well, outstanding if you were on the winners side of things or watching the game between Scott and Mitch. Most of the games were lop-sided, Marc over Pete, Hammo over Tony, Steve over Mike and Leigh over myself in which we both played badly for most of the round but Leigh was able to out crap me by 3 holes most of the day to move on.

The main comp of the day was won by Dave ‘Pirate’ Thomas. He had some great long smooth drives and 3 woods off the deck, composed around the green he was able to get to plus 5, with the consistent Steve Hooper just behind on plus 4 and Hammo just back on plus 2.

The main side event of the day was the Matchplay between Scott and Mitch. Mitch took and early lead and was up by a few heading into the last 4 or 5 holes, each hole Scott would hit laser straight approaches all over the flag which countered Mitch's drives. Both sunk pressure putts continually from 2 to 3 meters out to halve or wins holes. Coming down to the last hole they both did it again to tie the match and do it all again next week.  Those that saw it were nervous for both of them and rank it as one of the best match plays they had seen as per Heineys comments below.

Today I watched what was the best matchplay game I have ever seen. Not even in Ryder cup have I seen a match like it.

With Scotty's approach shots hitting around the pin and Mitch grinding his way with booming putts it was the most amazing match to witness.

Going down the 18th all square with the final putt of the match  by Mitch from 2 m to square it and made it.

Well done guys, the most fun I have had on a golf course.

Unbelievable match.

Heiney
