In the early hours at The Vines Golf Club, the Players Club kicked off its first round of the season, welcoming back familiar faces—even if some were sporting a few extra post-Christmas kilos. The camaraderie was palpable as the players geared up for an exciting day of golf.
Unfortunately, Scotty's day didn't start as planned. He struggled to log into MiScore and couldn't recall any of his email passwords, leading to a rocky beginning. However, the mood quickly turned as the new captain confidently launched the first drive, setting a promising tone for the competition.
Business as usual followed, with Pete Tallon entertaining the crowd by hitting the handrail a mere 20 meters in front of the tee box. It was clear that the off-season had taken its toll, as several players also struggled to clear the creek.
Luke, the vice-captain, narrowly avoided an early nomination for the “Dipstick” award after getting his cart bogged. Despite the mishaps, the atmosphere remained light-hearted and full of friendly banter.
TC, however, had a round to forget. When asked about his performance, he could only muster a comment about his consistency, having scored a mere four points on the back nine picking up the NAGA with 12 points.
Davies and Deano dominated the novelites, with the B grade long drive sailing way past the A grade marker. Deans Driver running hot and cold all day was only saved by his impressive putting.
In the end, Heiny (36), with half a back, won on a countback from Oggy (36). Luke (35) grabbed third place on a countback from Peter Platter (35), who had turned with an impressive 20 points.
Finally a further reminder about the pace of play, particularly with a stroke round next week.
