Collier - Monthly Medal - Stroke
A reduced field of 16 keen players for July Monthly medal. Probably a combination of: 1 PTSD after getting soaked the last three events; and (2) everyone saving themselves for next weeks Winter Cup major in Mandurah (With a number of people getting weekend passes which could result in some whiter shades of pale on Sunday morning) You know who you are. :)
The weather was kind this week with a comparatively warm morning then reaching a high in the low teens. The three leaders ran hot all day with 3rd place Scott being a full five shots clear of fourth. According to Lui, Scott played steadily with 6 or so 3 putts dampening what could have been an even better score. Although better wardrobe planning is recommended as he had to ungracefully strip off a number of layers to avoid overheating.
Second place finisher Craig had an up and down front nine 39, with a birdie and two doubles then a ho hum back nine 39 to card a nifty gross 79 net 68.
But the star of the day was Steve Hooper, blitzing the front nine and only cooling slightly on the back nine to record second low gross on the day for a net 64. And playing 7.7 strokes under his GA, means he joins the exceptional score reduction club. As a reward he gets 2.6 strokes chopped off his handicap. Don't worry Steve, the sting goes away after 20 rounds. :)
Tony "NAGA or win" Calder's scorecard looked like a snowman convention.
Although there were some scorching scores from the leaders, the same cannot be said of the pace of play. Over 5 hours for the first group to get around. Myself and others in the group were genuinely surprised when checking the clock at the conclusion of the round as it didn't seem THAT slow. Some constructive observations by members in the following group were passed on from myself to fellow members of the group. We will endeavour to do better in the future.
