First visit to the renovated Springs Golf Course

Springs Golf Course - Stableford

This week played at the 9 hole ‘Springs Golf Course’ formally known as Armadale Golf Course. The course was renovated a couple of years and its 90% confirmed they replaced the old green with those from the Burswood Course.

What the course lacks in distance with some Par 4’s around the 300 metre mark and only one par 5, it certainly made up in technically difficulty on and around the greens. Aside from the fairways been tight with the occasional tree in the middle, the greens were often surrounded with small ponds and lakes. The greens themselves I would say are the best I've seen as far as pace and holding the line, they were immaculate and extremely undulating. Landing in the middle of the green in regulation was of no real benefit as most people 3 putted nearly every one. Craig, Norm and Doug had played the course previously and although slope rated 108 (meaning most people lost a shot on their GA handicap), Craig stated that I bet no one will get over 30 points. The Pro stated that he had never played the course and not lost a ball.

As the game started so did the wipes and the baffled faces. The majority of people turned with 12 or under with the odd 15 and 16 and some as low as 6. The second time around the first look did nothing to help, same mistakes happened and like I mentioned being in the middle of the green was no help at all some of the time. Norm was the best of the bunch as he put the driver away and just hit 2 irons which paid off. It was great work by the rest to hang in there and although it was tough it felt like no one was out of it and it was a great day.

Thanks to Doug for organising pies and to Pete for bringing along 3 visitors Liz, Joel and Ray.
