McCarthy wins the Presidents Trophy

This week was the Presidents Cup and a chance to see how the Master Jacket is shaping up with only one more major to go .On the side was the semi final of the Matchplay between two great players; Jamie Pickles and Mike Patton.

However, most of the action seemed to be in the final grouping of Dave, Macca, Sam and Craig, with Dave and Macca putting their names on just about everything. The entire group was hitting long straight drives and those that missed the green hit some great recovery chips with Dave and Macca sinking 3 meter putts with regularity. Craig led the scoring at the turn with 21 points and 39 off the stick with the others only one or two points / shots behind. The strong winds seemed to play havoc with most players on the Lake 9 and the score faded away, Craig in particular blew the last 3 holes to drop off the pace, while macca and Dave just kept rolling on.

The Matchplay was tight as expected but it was Jamie’s day, his shot on the 6th Lake hole put him a good position as he hacked a ball out of the bush that rocketed across the green at shin height only to hit the flag and drop straight in (rather than finish up an estimated 60 meters away) circle that one thanks, birdie! He finished the day on 36 and winning 2 up. The loss for mike however is a bit easier to take when you have just won the Club Champs recently.

Semi Final - Match Play results: Jamie Pickles defeats Mike Patton 2 up

In Other news - Masters Jacket

With only one major to go to conclude the Masters Jacket, Rob Mizen is currently sitting in the box seat with a one shot lead over Craig Markham and Jamie Pickles. However, This jacket would appear to be a 5 horse race as Lawrie Gibson and Mike Patton are sitting in the wings both with scores below 30 counting within their best 5 scores. Lawrie Gibson would appear to be the one to beat as he currently has a score of 22 points sitting within his best 5 scores and has consistently scored over 34 points at collier this year.
