A great morning for golf – benign weather and befifteen players including Leigh Harris who was submitting his third card today. It was our 6th of 8 Par rounds for the season, with some pre-game conversations spent on a short refresher course on the scoring method before taking on Pines then Lake.

Lawrie started the round with a little advice for his group 2 counterparts (Dave, Craig and Mike): “I always play with the winner so decide who it’s going to be“. It became evident that it wasn’t going to be Craig after he wiped the first 3 and 5 out of 8 as Lawrie carried him in the side bet. Mike Patton and Dave Ovel looked the goods, though Mike, robotic in his swing and displaying some of the best golf seen this year, was rolling along with long drives and great approaches turning on +3. At the finish he had carded a 77 off-the-stick (including 10 pars and a birdie) to return an excellent +5 and take out the win. Dave was his usual consistent self and Craig finally sorted himself out with a Par blitz. Lawrie kept on being that consistent Lawrie, though some wayward holes at the start and end of Lake didn’t keep him off today’s podium.

Trev Bindon is having a great year and his second placing today was his 7th podium finish (including 2 wins). Might’ve challenged Mike for top spot after turning from Pines +3 but a slow start on that mischievous Lake 9 didn’t help his cause.

Other news - Putt Off

There was excitement aplenty after the announcements were done and the Putt Off began. $265 was up for grabs and Rob Mizen led out giving the rest a good sighter. Robin followed and the crowd were on their toes as the ball zeroed in on the hole only to see it lip out from a dead cert to a dead loss. Hammo was next after muttering to Leigh Harris “I hate taking their money”. He was as good as his word, rolling his ball gently into the hole as the group erupted into unbridled frenzy. He’d done it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
