Fitzpatrick wins The Captain's Trophy

This week we were back to Collier Park for the Captain's Trophy, where only 16 players turned up to try and win. A rather small turn out for a major but that might have had something to do with the weather forecast. The weather was a constant drizzle with the odd shower here and there but these conditions didn't seem to affect the players club scores today (maybe these conditions suit a few players).

After missing out on winning the last Major (The Memorial Cup) by 1 point with 41 points, Peter decided that 42 points is obviously the number of points you need to win a major and set off to try and achieve just that. He played some absolutely fantastic shots into the green and had the golfing gods with him on other occasions, turning after nine on track to 42 with 21 points. However, he wasn't alone, as others also turned with 21 and 22 points (Craig Markham with 37 off the stick). This didn't seem to phase Peter as he continued to play some great golf, whilst watching the Match Play between Rob and David unfold. He casually finishes the last with 3 points and completed the back nine with another 21 points for a total of 42 points. 42 points was just enough to win him the day and take home his first Major trophy. Well Done Pete!

Basil Musca finished 2nd with 41 points, where he obviously played some splendid golf and probably thought he had the trophy in his hands when waiting in the club house, its not a win today for Basil but a good score to add to his Major Jacket chances. Lawrie Gibson completed the podium with 40 points and cemented himself at the top of the order of merit leader board with 208 points (31 points clear of second).

In Other news

Rob Mizen Surprised David Ovel by challenging him to play their quarter final Match Play. David accepted, which kind of through Rob off a little as he wasn't expecting him to accept. David then realised that he had to give his opponent 18 shots, which was going to be quite the challenge.

The round began on the lakes and Rob came out flying taking the lead by 3 shots after 4 holes. There wasn't much David could do other than to concentrate on his own game and hope Rob slips up. Rob then stumbled on the 5th and allowed David to stop the bleeding, for a brief moment, until rob played some great shots on 6th and 7th and turned after nine, 4 up (21 points).

The second nine started exactly the same as the first and Rob came flying out the gates and was 6 up with 7 to play. David still trying to concentrate on his own game started applying some pressure and was making the harder holes on the course work in his favour. David proceeded to win the next 5 holes and sat on the 17th tee box 1 down with 2 to play. great tee shots by both but David's third into the green was pushed to the right and opened the door for Rob to win the match. Congrats Rob and well played.

Match Play results: Rob Mizen defeats David Ovel 2 & 1
