Gibson back on Top!

This week was the next instalment of the Monthly Medal and Golden Putter . As usual stroke put a few people under some implied pressure , this mixed with some difficult pin positions produced a couple of scores over 10 , one on a par 3 . For group 2 there was only the side game of Match play to think about as Rob Mizen took on Peter Fitzpatrick and Dave Ovel had defending champion Craig Markham . With two opposite preparations , Dave , none and Craig , an hour a day for a week the game was close early as Dave was driving long and straight and when in trouble made 3 x 5 meter putts to save pars along with some great approaches from the two times he was in trouble . Craig failed to take any chances that came his way with some putts just missing, some bad luck and a possible public ball theft didn’t help and gave Dave a lead of 3 to 4 all the way through . Whilst it seemed one sided along the way Craig picked up 4 NTPs and parred half the course and it felt closer than it was . Dave held the lead and in a popular result won out 4 up with 3 to play . Peter and Rob had different match as they swapped the lead throughout the game . It was Peters first ever match play round and was travelling well until a couple of blowouts let Rob back in the game . It came down to the last hole in which Rob prevailed . The rest of the club has an interesting time of it , as Laurie’s kept it straight and solid to be the victor with a net 67 and taking out the Monthly Medal and to be the only other person other than Dave to play better than his handicap . Laurie appeared more relieved Craig was out of the Match play after both meeting nearly every year and being a thorn in each other’s side “ Finally someone else can win it ! “ Mike Patton is always one to watch and he took home 3rd with a net 75 . Norm had a shocker ( another one with some weekly practice ) taking home the rare NAGA " let him knw about it Pete!".
