Heron shines at Sun City

This week the club made the trek north to one the more picturesque courses in the metro area, Sun City. The course was in good condition with the greens running true and to a good pace. For a number of our members it was their first look at the course and it left a good impression. We will hopefully be back again later in the year. The large fairway bunkers seemed to catch a few people out in particular on the back nine with a bit of wind about not helping anyone susceptible to a slice.

It was Steve Herons day though by staying straight, plotting his way around the course, using his handicap well and coming in with 36 points. Garth was second on 34 points and displayed some great power hitting from the tee. His hit on the ankle by Phil in the group behind didn’t seem to slow him down either. The ever reliable Basil came in 3rd with 33. The rest were evenly distributed down to the NAGA. Mr G Hammond, on 21 who was unlucky in some spots and had some bad bunker positions.

The only unusual occurrence in the day, which sums up the game played by Hammo and Craig, was on the last hole. Craig was on for 3 on the Par 5 18th 10 meters from the hole and after not making a putt over a meter all day just walked up and hit while still on the move. Low and behold the putt dropped however the flag was still in the hole so that’s a 2 shot penalty 6.
