The first game of real golf (stroke), Monthly Medal and the first round of the Golden Putter were played at Collier between 5 groups. It was good to see Ricky and Marc put their second cards through and Peter his 3rd. At the end of the round Peter filled in the necessary paperwork and was accepted as a member by the committee.
Welcome Peter!
It was good to see Sam back after a few weeks and limited golf toward the end of last season. Nothing had changed in his world though, starting on the par 5 Lakes 1st, driver, 7 iron and a two meter putt for Eagle. “Circle that Craig “.
However, Norm was the story of the day, he just massaged the ball around the course in regulation, hitting a mix of drivers and 2 irons when required, making the putts and keeping a steady head finishing with a gross 76. Garth was along a whisker behind with a gross 79 and was coming off a good round at Kwinana. The ever reliable Laurie filled the 3rd position, again just doing the simple things well and not getting ahead of himself.
Unfortunately Heiney did what seemed to be a common occurrence with players, a win one week a NAGA the next. Lui had to DQ himself as his provisional ball hit down the middle somehow disappeared , only to reappear 10 minutes later amongst groups 3 and 4, one of those little mysteries , however time was getting away and in the spirit of keeping the play going he wasn’t going back to hit a 3rd off the tee.
In other news it has to be mentioned……. The Putt Off ….... Hammo went second and drained a 12 meter putt that seemed to be in slow motion and dribbled along looking like it was going to be 2 meters short , however it made it and became a the first dual winner talking home $165 , none of the others came close let alone were able to halve it , well done Hammo to which he replied
"it’s the only putt I ve made all day”
